About
We are a family of four, endeavouring to support a functioning eco-system, on five-acres of bushland. Which means minimal fencing, to allow wildlife migration, as part of that system. Without their endless contribution of browsing, digging, weeding, seeding, breeding, as well as pest control - there would be less soil building.
One of the greatest challenges, is our semi-arid climate. Dry most of the time, it's a struggle to get plants established. However, when the rain comes, it tends to be substantial and we have to employ strategies, to reduce soil erosion. Improvements we're making are installing ponds, swales and rainwater tanks (presently) but working towards, installing a bore too. As water is essential to life. Especially in the dry. This combination of earth and manufactured infrastructure, benefits us, the landscape, and wildlife also.
Ultimately, integration is at the heart of our design, and echoed in our mission statement:
"To develop and support natural systems. For a surplus of carbon to be secured in our soils, every year. Integrate our man-made systems, so they compliment the natural ones. Ensuring a balanced equity, for life and livelihood, to all those who cross our soil."
More concisely, "Natural systems...every year...compliment...soil." We hope to inspire others, to consider their habitation on land (whatever form that takes) as part of an eco-system too. So we can respect what's already here, and build the kind of relationships that encourage diversity. As a rich and diverse system, should sustain more life than our own.
See our page on, Natural Succession Gardening, to explain a little more about our process.
